This is a hands on class focused on application and not just information. Don't confuse our program with those with less than half of the contact hours, we just don't believe it can be done that fast. Our focus is on developing your skills so that you can perform the fundamental tasks that drive human resources.

HR Synergy's generalist course guides you through the dynamics and practice of applied HR management. It is designed for those with less than two years experience in HR, new graduates, or those previously limited to a narrow area of HR. If you are aspiring to enter the human resource field, an entry level HR professional or a newly appointed HR manager, this course provides the tools and skills you will need to succeed.

The course meets twice a week for four weeks, three hours each night beginning April 28, 2008. The course is comprised of instructionally intense, highly interactive programs. Each provides an overview of accepted human resource practices as well as practice sessions that will allow you to learn through "hands on" application of these practices.

We will also be introducing our students to many new and exciting uses of the internet at work. Our course requires computer literacy and the ability to effectively use the internet.

Role of Human Resources in the organization
Primary Human Resource functions
How the vision, mission and values of a company link to policy development and employee handbooks
Examination of the overarching laws and regulations that impact the HR environment

Job Analysis and Job Descriptions

Examination of the types of Job Analysis
Process and method of analyzing jobs
Determining job tasks using various methods including forms, interviews and combinations
Writing Job Descriptions
Understanding the legal issues associated with Job Analysis and Job Descriptions such as the Americans With Disabilities Act

Recruitment, Interviewing, Selection and Hiring

Utilizing job description to develop effective behavioral interviewing techniques
Development and implementation of staffing functions including recruitment, selection, hiring and placement
Record keeping
Assessing qualifications
Applicant processing
Criteria for selection
Post-interview actions
Questions to ask and not to ask

Effective Wage and Salary Administration

Steps to develop, design, and implement a program Determining Exempt and Non-Exempt Status according to the Fair Labor Standards Act
